11am – praise & worship
Being aware that people enjoy worshipping in various ways, our 9.15am and 11am services have very different styles, in order to provide the opportunity for as many people to come and worship God as possible.
In our 11am service, you’ll see and hear drums, keyboards, electric guitars and more, as we worship with a modern musical style. God has really blessed us with a fantastic team of musicians – which is still growing and developing! If you’re new to St Martin’s, and are interested in getting involved with the worship team, contact our worship team leader, Niall

Here’s a short video about our T.C Lewis organ that accompanies the worship at our traditional worship services.
9.15am – reflective Worship
If you enjoy a more reflective approach to worship, with liturgy and choral music, our 9.15am service might be what you’re looking for. Heather Taylor, and our wonderful choir, help create a reflective atmosphere, with reverence and awe for the God we worship. If you are interested in joining the choir, contact us for more information.
We are blessed with a wonderful Lewis Organ which has accompanied many services and special events as well as taking the musical lead in many concerts and recitals. Our talented choir / musical director, Heather leads our traditional worship services using this special instrument.
Prayer
We describe ourselves as a prayer-focused community, but what does that look like? As well as encouraging each other in daily private prayer and praying together when we gather to worship, we also have:-
- Prayer Ministry – At the end of our 9:15 and 11 o’clock services, we create space for individuals who would like to be prayed for.
- Online Prayer Ministry – Where those who are sick, or in need, are lovingly prayed for in confidence. If you would like anyone added to our prayer list please contact a member of staff or the church office.
- Friday Prayer Tent – From 10 till 12 noon on Friday mornings we go out to the Liskeard Parade with tea and coffee and ask people if they would like to chat and build up relationships within our wider community. Before the end of every conversation, we ask if we can pray for them.
- 24 Hours of Prayer – Three times a year we dedicate 24 hours of prayer and fasting to God. In these times we pray for our church and our locality and seek where God is leading us as a community.
Pastoral Care
“A new command I give you : Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” – John 13:34
At St Martin’s we are all involved with the pastoral care of our church community. Our weekly Life Groups and church teams intentionally care for one another.
We also have a pastoral care team for specific cases of pastoral care that are trained and safer recruited. This team is able to do home and hospital care/care home visits and communion.
To alert us of a need for pastoral care, or to request a visit, please email pastoral@smartchurchliskeard.co.uk or call the office on 01579 347411.
We also run The Bereavement Journey – a course for those affected by bereavement. Bereavement can impact hugely and affect all areas of life. Developed at Holy Trinity Brompton and appreciated by thousands of people over 20 years, The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way.
By means of a series of films and discussion groups it gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. Usually run by churches The Bereavement Journey uniquely offers a final session on faith questions in bereavement provided from a Christian perspective. This is optional, thus making The Bereavement Journey suitable for people of any faith or none.

Gracious God, we know that you are with us in every part of our lives. You celebrate with us in our times of joy. You weep with us in our sorrow. Each of us is made in your image: Those of us who are sad, forlorn, confused; those of us who are lonely, in chaos, excluded. You are with us in every part of our lives. Help us know your presence now. Amen
Children & Families
Have you got children that you would like to bring to church? We run a specific programme just for children and youth! We are passionate about them finding out who Jesus is and their identity in Him.
On Sunday mornings we run children’s groups during the 11am service. School-aged children and pre-school aged children stay with their parents for a short time of worship (usually until the second song) and then can go with their leaders out to enjoy their group (primary aged children to the church halls and pre-school age to the parish room at the back of church).
You are very welcome to go with your children the first time they attend and until they settle in.
For more info contact feel free to contact the office.
Youth
Together we are one – Liskeard Speaks (a song written, recorded and performed by young people from Liskeard in the summer of 2020)
During the week we run a Youth Life Group for older children on Monday evenings, from 6pm to 7.30pm. The group meets in our Youth Cellars (beside the Lower Hall) and is open to any young person from year 6 and above. We also run our ‘Youth Cafe’ on Friday afternoons from 3.30pm-5pm, free to drop in, grab a drink and some snacks (bring a bit of change!) and have some fun! Youth Cafe is followed by Youth Alpha for those who wish to stay and find out more about the Christian faith.
Our vision for youth & children’s work to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.
Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. All our youth workers and volunteers are DBS checked and have received safeguarding training.
If you have any questions about the programmes or want to know more about bringing your kids along on a Sunday then please get in touch.
Lifegroups
As a church we believe the life of the church is in the small groups where we get to know each other and share life together. Life Groups meet in church members’ homes weekly to pray, discuss the bible and develop great friendships. The meetings last for approx. 90 mins. There is also usually an abundance of tea, coffee and biscuits… and sometimes even cake.
Join with a group of like minded people to share life, discuss and support one another. To join a life group fill out the life group online form and we’ll get you started!
Discipleship Courses
We have a programme of courses that run throughout the year which include the Alpha Course, The Bible Course and The Prayer Course among others.
We believe that everyone should have the chance to explore faith, ask questions, and share their point of view.
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs online, in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: hospitality, a talk and good conversation. To find out more about joining Alpha, fill out our online form and we’ll get back to you.
To find out which courses we are currently running please get in touch for more information.

The Environment & the Climate Crisis
We had already done much over the past years. We started in 2012 by installing a 15kWh array of solar panels on the church roof. During the major reordering of the church in 2018 / 2019 we installed insulation under the floor when we replaced our ancient boilers with a modern underfloor heating system and a category A boiler. Virtually all our lighting in Church is now LED lighting, and the churchyard is now part of the Living Churchyards scheme.
In July 2021 we were awarded the bronze Eco-church award, the first Cornish church in the Church of England to win such an award. We are now looking towards the silver award.
Going forward, our next major project is a refurbishment of the church hall complex, which will help us on our journey towards net zero.
