Pastoral Ministry Training Reflection

Five of us from St. Martin’s recently attended a course on Key Skills in Pastoral Ministry. The core aim of this course is to equip lay people to minister to others by learning from patterns of pastoral care set out by Jesus in the Bible. Topics considered include listening skills, setting appropriate boundaries, loss support and effective teamwork.

On a personal level, I benefitted from many aspects of this interesting and informative course. Although I had some prior knowledge of most of the topics covered, I gained new and valuable insights both from the teaching and the lively and stimulating discussion with others. It was also a real delight to fellowship with people from other local Anglican churches. The course concluded with a commissioning service in Truro Cathedral. With so many lay ministries represented and so many people attending from so many churches, this was an inspirational celebration of our achievement which I very much enjoyed.
