It was such a joy to welcome three students from Liskeard School for their Work Experience Week at the end of June.
The boys were welcomed into the staff team, joining us for Morning Prayer, Communion, Staff Meeting and Lunch as well as getting stuck in to all areas of ministry within the church that week.
A highlight was working on some holiday prep – the boys searched the churchyard for sticks for raft making, and did a trial run of the volcanoes!
Here is what they had to say about their week with us:
Jay:
What I’ve enjoyed whilst working for the St Martins Church is the working with kids / adults and making people laugh. An unexpected thing I did was the team lunch where we had jacket potatoes as a team. I also enjoyed learning how to use the cameras and sound system in the church plus the making volcanoes using vinegar and bicarb.
Leo:
I personally enjoyed the opportunity to socialize with people while serving food and drinks. Everyone was extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful. Furthermore, I also enjoyed making the volcanoes and tripling the formula for them. We learned about different aspects of youth ministry, including prayer, the camera equipment, and the sound system, and we all really enjoyed the experience, it was an experience I will never forget, especially Blaze Supper Club where we got to help kids and play with them and even eat cheese on toast and where we had the chance to experience attempting to build a boat (it is soo not easy but I did make 2), thank you for this opportunity!
Tien:
I loved it! I enjoyed every opportunity I had to meet new people while completing the tasks I was given, such as serving delicious beverages to the people who visited prayer tent and helping in other areas. The staff members were very friendly, welcoming, and patient, showing us what to do and how to do it, especially if we didn’t understand something.
Furthermore, we got to look after children at Blaze Supper Club, building tiny rafts, make volcanoes, and even use the church’s camera equipment and speakers. I really, really enjoyed my time at the church, and I’m so glad I got to spend my work experience there with my friends. Thank you!
